Seven police officers from three different departments were placed on administrative leave after an officer-involved shooting early Saturday morning in Jackson.

Blackman-Leoni police were dispatched to the East Michigan Ave Meijer store at around 1:30AM for reported domestic violence.

The suspect, a 33 year-old Cement City man, fled the scene before officers could arrive, but police were still able to locate the suspect’s vehicle over an hour later in the perimeter, The pursuit ended on Crouch Road near Draper Road when the man’s car became disabled on its own.

The man, carrying a handgun, fled the car and attempted to steal a vehicle from a nearby residence.

Standoff negotiations with the suspect lasted about 45 minutes before use of force was utilized, according to the Michigan State Police.

The suspect was shot and sent to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.  No officers were injured in the incident.

Two Michigan State Police Jackson Post troopers, three Jackson County Sheriff’s deputies and two Blackman-Leoni officers were placed on administrative leave per department policies.

The incident remains under investigation.
