Jackson, MI — Today, American 1 announced two donations to the Salvation Army of Jackson County totaling over $10,000.

$5,100 comes from American 1’s first-ever Virtual Car Sale that was held in June. American 1 closed 51 loans during the sale and donated $100 to the Salvation Army for every loan closed. American 1 looks for opportunities to support local organizations as often as possible.

“American 1 is a good neighbor to the Salvation Army – not only with proximity to their Home Office to our building, but also with the way they consistently support our organization,” said Major Jose Tamayo, Corps Officer for the Salvation Army of Jackson County. “From Volunteer support, to in-kind donations, to sponsorships, American 1 is always there when we need them, and we are thankful for their partnership.”

Additionally, American 1 provided a $5,000 donation for the Salvation Army of Jackson’s Red Shield Benefit to be the presenting sponsor. In 2020, the event will be a virtual one and is scheduled for August 31. The goal of the event is to raise needed funds to provide continued support to those impacted by the COVID-19 Pandemic. With payments for things such as utilities coming due after a temporary delay in due date during the COVID-19 pandemic, The Salvation Army hopes to be ready to help those who need it most. “Through the entirety of the COVID-19 pandemic, The Salvation Army of Jackson County never shut their doors. They continued to serve our community by providing basic needs, utility assistance, youth and senior support, and so much more,” said Janelle Merritt, Vice President of Community Partnerships at American 1. “Our consistent support of the Salvation Army is important to us because they are essential to our community.”

American 1 is also providing 33 hours of volunteer time across 10 dates for the Salvation Army’s Fresh Food Initiative. The Fresh Food Initiative allows any Jackson County residents to receive fresh produce if they are in need. The initiative is open Mondays through September 28 (closed Labor Day), while supplies last, at the Salvation Army (806 E. Pearl St., Jackson, MI 49201).
