The yellow-green fluids along the side of I-696 led to the inspection of an old industrial site in suburban Detroit.
High levels of numerous contaminants were found in the soil and groundwater under the former Electro-Plating Services site in Madison Heights.
Candice Miller, Macomb County Public Works Commissioner, referred to the site as a disaster.
Officials say that there is no risk to the drinking water in the area.
Estimated clean-up time of the area is around a month.
