Jackson Mayor Derek Dobies was on WKHM Wednesday morning, addressing the buyout of former city attorney Bethany Smith who left the city under somewhat mysterious circumstances. Smith was not fired, but negotiated a severance deal far above the stipulations of her contract according to Mlive, who obtained a copy of the deal through the Freedom of Information Act. Mayor Dobies said he was the only vote against the inflated package footed by the taxpayers.

The city is still spending money as they have retained a search firm to find the city’s next attorney.
