At Tuesday’s city council meeting funding for the project titled “Cure Violence” passed by a vote of 6-1, with councilman Jeromy Alexander opposed. Jackson Mayor Derek Dobies spoke to WKHM’s Greg O’Connor Wednesday morning.
Another measure aimed at reducing gun violence which would require new businesses and apartment buildings to install outdoor security cameras, was not taken up by the council but could be brought up again at a future meeting.
Also at the meeting, the council approved three resolutions to set up the framework for medical and recreational marijuana establishments in the city, Halloween trick or treat hours were established as 6 to 8 p.m. on October 31st, and a contract for the leaf pick up program was approved.
