Jackson, Mich. (WKHM) — A fire at Davis Middle School in Hillsdale Thursday morning is being investigated as possible arson.

Emergency crews responded around 8:10 a.m. after smoke was reported coming from an upstairs boys’ bathroom. According to Superintendent Ted Davis, someone deliberately set fire to a soap dispenser. The blaze was quickly contained, causing minor damage — about six square feet — with no injuries reported.

Deputy Fire Chief Mark Hawkins said the fire did not spread beyond the bathroom and will likely require only a light clean-up.

Superintendent Davis praised the quick response from Hillsdale police and fire crews, saying their swift action helped ensure everyone’s safety. He also commended students and staff for remaining calm and handling the situation well.
