Elmer Hitt, the current Chief of Police with the Jackson Police Department, has announced that he will be retiring this month. Hitt talked with WKHM about the process of making this decision and the final day of his job.
Elmer says he will leave the position with plenty of good memories and recollections of his time serving the community.
Christopher Simpson, who worked with the JPD for 25 years and is currently the Undersheriff for the Jackson County Office of the Sheriff, will be sworn in to replace Hitt during the February 11 City Council meeting. Hitt feels confident that the position of Police Chief is in good hands.
The City Council meeting will begin at 6:30pm at the 2nd Floor City Council Chambers at City Hall on 161 W. Michigan Avenue.
