During Tuesday evening’s City of Jackson Council meeting, a rule was added to the Public Hearing procedure that states that comments made during a public hearing must be relevant to the specific topic of the hearing. Mayor Daniel Mahoney explained to WKHM the impact this amendment is desired to have on AM Jackson.

Mayor Mahoney also outlined why it was felt that the change was necessary to be added in the first place.

This is NOT a change to the general Citizen Comment portion of City Council meetings in which citizens are given 3 minutes to address the Council. Instead, this only impacts comments made during public hearings, which are called for specific reasons (like a special assessment).
