Mayor Daniel Mahoney has called a special meeting of the Jackson City Council for councilmembers to make decisions about the upcoming Ward 5 election. The meeting is happening Tuesday, April 30th, 6p.m. in the 2nd Floor City Council Chambers, City Hall, 161 W. Michigan Ave.
A special election is taking place in 2024 to fill a City Council vacancy in Ward 5. Following the April 23rd filing deadline, there are no qualified candidates to appear on the ballot for the Ward 5 election. In the event of something like this happening, the City Charter allows the City Council to intervene and make decisions about placing names on the ballot.
The Ward 5 election is the only item on the agenda for the April 30th meeting.
