A young girl critically injured in a Tuesday morning crash on I-94 is now stable and on the mend. The 3-year-old, initially treated at Henry Ford Jackson Hospital after the January 14 accident, was later moved to the ICU at C.S. Mott Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor, where she remains in stable condition, according to Michigan State Police First Lt. Rene Gonzales.

The crash occurred around 11:30 a.m. on westbound I-94 near Dearing Road, west of Jackson. A 31-year-old Kalamazoo woman, driving the vehicle, lost control and struck a guardrail twice, Gonzales said. The woman, her 3-year-old daughter, and her 8-year-old child were all transported to the hospital. The mother and older child have since been released, Gonzales added.

The accident closed the freeway for approximately three hours as emergency crews worked at the scene.

Authorities confirmed that drugs and alcohol do not appear to have played a role in the crash, which is still under investigation.
