Sydney Hawkins grew up listening to “The Big Dog” (Jamie McKibbin) on radio station K105.3. Now the 24-year-old is part of the show.
Hawkins has been co-host of “The Big Dog and Sydney Morning Show” and host of “Mid-days with Sydney” for two years.
The Western High School graduate spent five years living in East Lansing while attending Michigan State University, doing an internship in Los Angeles, and studying in London, Scotland and Wales.
“I’ve had the opportunity to live in different places, and Jackson will always be home to me,” Hawkins said. “Jackson is big enough to have a mark on the map and small enough for everyone to leave their mark. I’m glad I landed my first radio job in Jackson.”
As the Public Service Announcement Director for Jackson Radio Works (K105.3 FM, 970 WKHM AM and ESPN Radio 1450), Hawkins has been involved with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the American Cancer Society, Junior Achievement, Ella Sharp Museum, and the Jackson School of the Arts, where she’s a board member and Spanish tutor.
“People in Jackson have big hearts,” she said. “It’s amazing to see the people come together when something happens – and even more amazing to be involved.”
Off the air, Hawkins can be seen around Jackson taking part in volleyball, softball and bowling games.
