Holy Box Office, Batman! The new Batman movie “The Dark Knight” managed to snap the weekend record set by 2007’s “Spider-Man 3,” selling an estimated $155.3 million worth of tickets in its first three days of release in
North America. The movie, starring late actor Heath Ledger as the Joker, beat the $151.1 million take for “Spider-Man 3” during its first weekend in May 2007. “The Dark Knight” also earned $40 million from 20 foreign markets. The film cost about $180 million to make.
Angelina Jolie Leaves Hospital With Twins Angelina Jolie has left the French hospital where she gave birth to twins. Jolie was discharged on July 19th. Jolie and twins Vivienne Marcheline and Knox Leon left with Brad Pitt in the early morning, escaping the paparazzi.
Ed McMahon Sues Johnny Carson’s longtime sidekick Ed McMahon sued a Los Angeles hospital on Friday, claiming
doctors failed to diagnose his broken neck after a fall and discharged him without taking an X-ray. McMahon, 85, also accused Cedars-Sinai Medical Center of botching two spine operations, resulting in months of pain and discomfort. McMahon fell at the home of investor Robert Day in March 2007. His lawsuit says he told doctors he felt like a “bobble-head” doll because of his spine, but they still failed to do an X-ray and sent him home. The lawsuit also names Day, accusing him of negligence.
Troyer Settles Sex Tape Suit Verne Troyer has settled the $20 million lawsuit that he filed last month against TMZ, an adult film distributor, and celebrity porn broker Kevin Blatt after a clip of a sex tape he made with a former
girlfriend was posted on the celebrity-gossip site TMZ.com. Troyer’s attorney said Friday that while Mini-Me has no plans on ever selling the tape, Blatt and online renter SugarDVD signed agreements requiring Troyer’s permission before they can promote or profit from the video.
Artist Outraged Over Green-Eyed ‘Kung Fu Panda’ Zhao Bandi, a Chinese performance artist known for using panda imagery, has sued DreamWorks over its portrayal of the lead character Po (voiced by Jack Black) in “Kung Fu Panda.” Bandi is seeking an apology from DreamWorks for insulting China’s national symbol. Some of his objections
are the color of Po’s eyes and the fact that his father is a duck. Bandi said, “Designing the panda with green eyes is a conspiracy. A panda with green eyes has the feeling of evil.” He added that he is “worried some young Chinese people will think their ancestor is Donald Duck.” Zhao had previously called for “Kung Fu Panda” to be banned in China because it would upset victims of the Sichuan earthquake. The release was delayed but arrived in theaters on June 20th after an online protest.
Shannen Doherty Moving Back To ‘90210’ Shannen Doherty will return as Brenda Walsh in a new spinoff of “Beverly Hills 90210.” The CW network says her character is now a famous director who is invited back to stage a musical at her old school. She will guest star in “multiple episodes” on “90210,” CW said. Doherty will be reunited with
a few members of the old West Beverly High School gang. Jennie Garth will return as Kelly Taylor, now a guidance counselor at the school, and Tori Spelling will be back as Donna Martin, who owns a boutique. Also back is Joe E. Tata as Peach Pit cafe owner Nat. The drama premieres September 2nd.
Debbie Reynolds’ Yacht Sinks A 75-foot $350,000 boat named Jean Marie owned by Debbie Reynolds has sunk near Jacksonville, Florida. The construction company Mobro Marine used a crane last Wednesday to remove the boat
from 8 feet of water in the St. Johns River. Company officials said deterioration on the side of the boat created a hole big enough to sink the vessel in about 10 minutes. The Jean Marie had about $100,000 worth of antiques on it when it sank.
Salma Hayek Unengaged Actress Salma Hayek has called off her engagement to Francois-Henri Pinault, a French
businessman and father of her daughter. Hayek gave birth to a baby girl named Valentina in September.
Uma Thurman Denies Wedding Rumors Uma Thurman has denied reports she secretly married businessman/boyfriend Arpad Busson. Thurman threw two swanky parties, one at Busson’s London home last month and one at her Manhattan apartment earlier this month – an event that was allegedly a secret wedding. As we speak

DMX Arrested – AGAIN DMX was arrested at a Phoenix mall Saturday on suspicion of giving a false name and Social
Security number to a hospital to get out of paying for medical expenses. Officials said that when DMX went to Scottsdale’s Mayo Clinic in April he used the name “Troy Jones” and failed to pay a $7,500 bill. Authorities began investigating the charge following an animal neglect investigation last year at his north Phoenix home. DMX was arrested in that case on felony drug possession and animal cruelty charges after authorities seized 12 pit bull dogs and dug up the remains of three others. DMX was also arrested at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport earlier this month on outstanding warrants after he failed to make a court appearance. He was arrested in Miami on charges of attempting to purchase cocaine and marijuana a week earlier.
Britney, K-Fed Reach Custody Settlement Britney Spears and her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, have reached a custody settlement. According to the agreement, Federline retains sole custody of the couple’s two sons, Preston, 2 1/2, and Jayden, 1 1/2. Spears – who’s currently allowed two visits and one overnight stay per week – will get additional visitation rights. A source close to the singer confirms she’ll pay Federline $20,000 a month in child support, an increase from $15,000.
Ne-Yo, Chris Brown To Remix Wrigley’s Jingles Ne-Yo and Chris Brown are set to remix Wrigley’s popular gum jingles and will unveil them at a concert hosted by Wrigley’s on July 29th in New York. Ne-Yo, whose “Year of the Gentleman” album hits stores next month, has remixed the Big Red jingle. Chris Brown tackled the Double Mint song.
The duo will be joined by “Dancing With The Stars” pro and country singer Julianne Hough, who remixed the Juicy Fruit jingle.
Joe Jonas Finishes High School Joe Jonas of The Jonas Brothers has graduated high school. His older brother Kevin broke the news during a Friday taping of the MTV series “FNMTV.” The Jonas Brothers also confirmed they will
perform at their first MTV Video Music Awards in September. They plan to perform the second single from their new album “A Little Bit Longer,” due August 12th. The Brothers will soon start filming their new Disney show, “J.O.N.A.S.”
Kanye West To Appear At Democratic Convention Kanye West has been tapped to appear at this year’s Democratic Convention in Denver, Colorado. N.E.R.D. and Wyclef Jean will also perform at a party for MTV and the Rock the Vote Campaign during the Convention. Festivities begin August 25th and will continue for three days.
Diddy, Kim Land New Reality Series Even though they’re separated, Sean “Diddy” Combs and Kim Porter are both headed to the small screen for two new reality shows. The two have reportedly each inked deals for series to run on VH1 and Lifetime. Diddy, who performed a nationwide search for a new assistant, will premiere “I Want to
Work for Diddy” on VH1 on August 4th. Kim Porter, Diddy’s ex and the mother of his son Christian and twin girls, has inked a deal with Lifetime for a reality series that will follow her as she adjusts to life as a single mother in Los Angeles.
Eminem Returns To The Studio Eminem has been avoiding the limelight for some time now. However, he may finally be ready for a return. Bishop Lamont says Em has been in the studio recording “some amazing stuff.” Lamont said
Eminem has “been quiet too long, and he’s got a lot to get off his chest,” referring to the tragic death of his best friend and fellow D12 member Proof and other incidents that have occurred in the last four years.
T.I.’s ‘Paper Trail’ T.I. has set September 9th as the release date for his new album, “Paper Trail.” The Atlanta rapper
promises he’ll address his recent legal troubles in the new material. “I just want everyone to know that it’s coming out and that I’m going to answer a lot of questions in the music,” T.I. says. “It’s intense and insightful; it’s gonna shake up the game and it’s me at my best.” The first single from the record, “Whatever You Like,” dropped recently.
Michael Bublé Finds New Love After Split Michael Bublé has already found a new love after splitting from girlfriend Emily Blunt. Bublé, who confirmed over the weekend that he and Blunt had ended their three year romance, was
photographed kissing singer Heather Fogarty. Bublé met Blunt backstage at one of his concerts in 2005, months after his engagement to dancer Debbie Timuss was called off.
Steven Tyler’s Mother Dies The mother of Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler has died. Susan Ray Tallarico passed away at a Nashua, New Hampshire, retirement home last Monday. She was 84. She is believed to have died of natural causes.
Rihanna Traumatized By Prejudice Rihanna credits her success to childhood bullying, saying her prejudiced peers prepared her for the entertainment industry by forcing her to develop a thick skin. She says “It (prejudice) made me angry. It made me want to fight in my younger years. Having lighter skin wasn’t a problem in my household,
but it was when I went to school – which really confused me at first. For the first six years of school, I would go home traumatized.” |
