Jerry Lewis Telethon To Help Gustav Victims Jerry Lewis’ annual Muscular Dystrophy fundraising telethon asked viewers to help victims of Hurricane Gustav. Lewis used the annual Labor Day telethon to encourage families registered with MDA who are being evacuated from their homes to seek out MDA services when they reach shelters
or other destinations. MDA said it has almost 5,000 registered families in the areas affected by the Gulf Coast evacuation. Lewis asked viewers of the 43rd Annual Telethon not only to donate, but also to give to the Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services. Jerry Lewis raised a record $65 million, $1.2 million more than last year.

‘Good Morning’ Star Survives Auto Accident 
Sam Champion, who announces the weather for “Good Morning America,” survived a potentially deadly highway accident in Long Island, New York. Champion said he and his driver were traveling on the Long Island Expressway Friday when their vehicle crashed into a tractor-trailer that had
jackknifed. While Champion and his driver suffered minor scrapes, neither needed medical treatment. The accident involved other vehicles and temporarily closed the expressway.

Depp Plays Guitar For Benefit Concert  Johnny Depp played guitar with members of his old band at a benefit concert in Pompano Beach, California. Depp played at a Dan Marino Foundation event Friday at Club Cinema with the members
of his high school band, The Kids. The reunion performance helped raise money for children with special needs.
James Gandolfini Marries “Sopranos” star James Gandolfini has tied the knot in Hawaii. An unidentified guest told People magazine that the 46-year-old actor and 40-year-old former model Deborah Lin were married in
Honolulu Saturday.

Mr. Rogers Gets The Boot  Reruns of “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood” won’t be seen on many PBS stations this season. Even though the show’s star, Fred Rogers, died five years ago and new episodes have not been taped for
seven years, many people are still upset the children’s TV staple has been ousted from the 2008-09 lineup to make way for new shows. Stations in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York are among those dropping the program, mainly due to a dip in ratings. “It sucks, man,” Brian Linder, a South Carolina writer and parent who established the Web site savemisterrogers.com told the Chicago Tribune. “That’s not a Mr. Rogers thing to say. But maybe in this case he’d even say it.” PBS said episodes of the show might eventually be posted online.

The WB Finds New Home On Web  Full-length episodes of shows that first aired on The WB can now be viewed at www.thewb.com. In addition to “Angel,” “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” “Everwood,” “Gilmore Girls” and “Smallville,” viewers
will also be able to watch new shows such as “Blue Water High,” “A Boy Wearing Makeup” and “Whatever Hollywood” on the site.

‘Gone With The Wind’ Stuntwoman Dies
Hazel Warp, Vivien Leigh’s stunt double in “Gone With the Wind,” died last Tuesday in a hospital in Bozeman, Montana. She was 93. Warp also appeared in “Wuthering Heights,” “Ben-Hur” and
“National Velvet,” among other films.

Natalie Portman Honored
Natalie Portman picked up a humanity award in Venice on Sunday. The actress received the firstever Movie for Humanity Award at the Venice Film Festival for her work with social and environmental
programs. Given to film artists who devote themselves to humanitarian causes, the Oscar-nominee donated her $50,000 prize to the Jane Goodall Institute in Tanzania, where Portman supports the Tacare Girl’s Scholarship Program.

‘Dark Knight’ Passes $500 Million Mark “The Dark Knight” has become the second movie in Hollywood history to top $500 million at the domestic box office, raising its total on Sunday to $502.4 million, according to estimates from
distributor Warner Bros. The film hit that mark in just over six weeks, half the time it took “Titanic.” “Titanic,” the biggest modern blockbuster, remains No. 1 on the domestic charts with $600.8 million.

DNA Links Man To Slaying Of Kutcher’s Ex  Authorities in California say DNA evidence has linked an air conditioning repairman to the stabbing deaths of three women, including a former girlfriend of Ashton Kutcher. Michael Gargiulo has been in custody since July for a separate knife attack and could face murder charges as soon as this week,
police said. Officials said DNA collected from a crime scene last spring helped link Gargiulo to the stabbing deaths of women from Los Angeles, suburban Chicago and Monterey Park. One of the cases involves 22-year-old Ashley Ellerin, Kutcher’s former girlfriend, who was found dead in February 2001 in her Hollywood Hills home. Gargiulo’s DNA was placed in a national database because he was a suspect in the 1993 slaying of high school student Tricia Pacaccio in Glenview, Illinois, where Gargiulo lived at the time.

Helen Mirren, Coke Head  Helen Mirren says she used to love snorting cocaine at parties in the 1970 and 1980s – until she realized she was funding criminals. The British actress tells GQ magazine she only quit coke after
finding out that notorious Nazi war criminal Klaus Barbie was holed up in South America living off the proceeds of selling the drug to other countries.

Jennifer Aniston To Guest On ‘30 Rock’  Jennifer Aniston will be returning to NBC this fall, appearing in an episode of “30 Rock.” It will be her first appearance on the network since her “Friends” stint. Aniston is the second “Friends” alum to appear on the series; David Schwimmer guested as Greenzo during last season’s environmental
episode. The new season of “30 Rock” premieres October 30th. There was no confirmation on when Aniston would appear or what character she would be playing,

‘Tropic Thunder’ Tops Holiday Box Office “Tropic Thunder” took in $14.3 million and remained No. 1 at the box office over the weekend, hurt in part by Hurricane Gustav. The movie has been No. 1 for three straight weekends, raising its total to $86.6 million. The top five movies over the weekend include:
1. “Tropic Thunder” $14.3 million
2. “Babylon A.D.” $12 million
3. “The Dark Knight” $11 million
4. “The House Bunny” $10.2 million
5. “Traitor” $10 million

Usher Ready For Some Football Usher will be part of the NFL’s kickoff concert on Thursday in New York, and he’d like the NFL to keep him in mind when they choose the talent for the Super Bowl. Usher says there have been
conversations for a lot of years about his being part of a performance at the Super Bowl. He says, “This whole process is basically you scratch my back, I’ll scratch yours.”

Springsteen Tour Ends At Harley-Davidson Celebration  Bruce Springsteen wrapped up his world tour playing for the bikers. Springsteen played three-and-ahalf hours Saturday for the 105th anniversary celebration of Harley-Davidson. More than 100,000 people from around the world were expected to attend the Harley celebration.

Madonna Crew Not Happy With Tour Accommodations  Members of Madonna’s “Sticky & Sweet” tour crew are reportedly furious with their travel and hotel accommodations. Several of the 250-strong staff are also said to be unhappy about being booked on no-frills airlines while the Material Girl travels by private jet. There is also growing resentment after the singer recently stayed at a $20,000-a-night castle while some crew members were put up in a
$92.50-a-night hotel.

Pink Declares Love For Estranged Husband  Pink has declared her love for estranged hubby, Carey Hart. The couple split in February, but Pink says, “We are insane and we love each other and we always will, even if we are not husband and wife. He knew what he was getting into six and a half years ago. We are best friends, we really are.
It’s confusing for most people but that’s the way it is.”

Michael Stipe To Leave U.S. If McCain Elected  R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe has threatened to leave America if Senator John McCain is elected president. The singer, who has recorded a song for McCain’s Democratic rival Barack Obama, says McCain “served his country and he did a good job as a serviceman, I will honor him for that, but he is
not presidential material.” He adds, “I’d have to move to England.”

Winehouse Pulls Out Of Paris Gig  Amy Winehouse pulled out of a concert in Paris on Friday at the last minute because she was too sick to perform. Winehouse, who’s been hospitalized twice since June, claimed she was too ill to
make the trip  from her home in London to Paris for the Rock En Seine festival. Her spokesman said, “It’s nothing serious. It’s just a normal illness – she hasn’t visited a hospital or anything like that. She’s at home in bed, just unable to sing.” Organizers say they may seek legal action.  

Kid Rock Album To Have Digital Release
Kid Rock’s “All Summer Long” has propelled his album “Rock N Roll Jesus” back to the top of the charts, despite the record’s CD-only availability. Rock has famously kept his music off iTunes, which he partly attributes as the reason for the album’s sales success. But Atlantic Records says “Rock N
Roll Jesus” will soon be sold digitally via Walmart.com, BestBuy.com, Amazon and Rhapsody – but not at iTunes. Meanwhile, Rock has recorded a new song, “Warrior,” for an upcoming ad for the National Guard. He’s on a tour that runs through September 28th in Phoenix before heading overseas.

Snow Patrol To Release ‘iPhone Album’
Snow Patrol is set to pioneer a new interactive application for the iPhone and iPod Touch with their new album, “A Hundred Million Suns,” due out this fall. The album will be the first to utilize the
multimedia capacities of iPhones. Fans will be able to download the application and access bonus content including artwork, behind-the-scenes images and lyrics via the handset’s touchscreen.

Hootie Hiatus 
Hootie And The Blowfish frontman Darius Rucker is taking is new career as a solo country artist
serious, announcing that the band is essentially on ice. Rucker said that while Hootie will still play four annual charity shows, “we will not do a record or tour for five or six years ... until I do three or four country records.”
