‘Golden Girls’ Estelle Getty Dies   Estelle Getty, best known for her role as Sophia on “The Golden Girls,” has died. Getty, who had advanced dementia, died yesterday morning at her Hollywood home. She would have turned 85 on
Friday.

Update: Bale Denies Assault 
“The Dark Knight” star Christian Bale said yesterday that he did not assault his mother and sister at a London hotel. Bale was arrested, questioned and released on bail after his mother and sister told
police he assaulted them on Sunday night. Bale’s lawyer released a statement saying the actor “attended a London police station” on a “voluntary basis.”

Robert Downey Jr. Postpones Memoir   The Associated Press is reporting that Robert Downey Jr. has postponed plans to write a memoir and has returned his advance to publisher HarperCollins. The book was originally set to come out later this year and was billed as a “candid look at the highs and lows of his life and career” when it was
announced two years ago. No word was given as to why Downey is postponing the book.

Disney Wastes No Time Replacing Ebert & Roeper   One day after Roger Ebert and Richard Roeper announced separately that they would end their run as hosts of “At The Movies,” Disney has already named their successors. Ben Lyons, a film critic for E! Entertainment Television, and Ben Mankiewicz, a moderator for Turner Classic Movies, will take
over the job when the show is relaunched on September 6th. The show will simply be named “At The Movies.”

Former Supermodel Janice Dickinson Busted 
Former supermodel Janice Dickinson has become the first celebrity victim of California’s new phoneand- driving law. As of July 1st, motorists can no longer use cell phones while driving. Dickinson was ticketed on Hollywood’s Sunset Boulevard yesterday. The paparazzi just happened to be there as
well, and many ended up getting a ticket for jaywalking.

Mel Gibson Unwanted   A Boston couple has told the makers of “Edge of Darkness” not to film the police drama in their
building because they don’t want star Mel Gibson there. The couple’s nephew, Brian Keaney, who writes for the blog MyDedham.org, said his aunt and uncle were initially thrilled by the prospect of having their building appear in a movie – until they found out Gibson was involved. Keaney said his aunt and uncle were upset by anti-Semitic remarks Gibson reportedly made during his 2006 drunken driving arrest in California.

Hulk’s Boy Moving To Grown-Up Jail  Unless a judge orders otherwise, Nick Bollea, who has been housed with other juveniles at Pinellas County Jail in Florida, will be moved to an adult facility on Sunday – his 18th birthday. It’s an open
dormitory type of setting where he’ll be in close contact with other adult inmates. Bollea is due to be released in October. Meanwhile, Lance Cpl. John Graziano, the Marine and Iraq War veteran who was injured when Bollea crashed his Toyota Supra while speeding and driving under the influence, is still unconscious at James A. Haley Veterans Hospital in Tampa. Doctors long ago removed a portion of his skull in order to allow room for the swelling of his brain. John’s father said his son is scheduled for reconstructive cranialplasty surgery in the near future. The missing part of his skull will be replaced with acrylic bone.

They Might Be Giants Replace Barenaked Ladies On Disney Tour  They Might Be Giants are set to replace The Barenaked Ladies on the Long Island, New York, dates of the first annual “Disney Music Block Party Tour” on August 22-24. Barenaked Ladies canceled their appearances after singer/guitarist Steven Page was arrested with his girlfriend in New York on charges of possessing cocaine.

Alanis Morissette Samples ‘Flavors’ On Fall Tour 
Alanis Morissette has announced dates for a substantial fall tour to support her latest studio album, “Flavors of Entanglement,” which hit stores last month. Morissette will kick off the trek September 18th in Charlottesville, Virginia. The 37-city outing is scheduled to run through mid-November.

MTV Viewers Help Pick 2008 VMA Noms 
Viewers will get a say in how they want their MTV. The network is letting fans help pick the nominees for this year’s Video Music Awards. The show airs live on September 7th from Los Angeles. Viewers can vote on two categories each week, including Video of the Year and Best New Artist, by visiting
the awards’ Web site. The Jonas Brothers will hit the stage for their first ever VMA performance. 

Two Photographers Arrested For Getting Too Close To Spears   Two paparazzi trying to snap shots of Britney Spears were arrested Monday after ignoring a warning from police about being illegally parked on a city-owned fire access road near Spears’ home. Alexander Passo and Eduardo Ravalha parked in a restricted area around 6 p.m. They were
arrested 45 minutes later after ignoring police requests to move. Ravalha’s car was impounded. A “No Trespassing” sign posted on a fence near where the photographers were parked was swiped earlier this month.

Shakira Leads Protest Calling For Release Of Hostages In Colombia  Shakira is demanding the release of hostages that have been seized by Colombian insurgents. She led an international day of protest on Sunday, singing the national anthem at a parade that was presided over by Colombia’s president. Shakira marked the nation’s Independence Day by
performing a set in the city of Leticia that borders the jungle. The FARC rebels have kidnapped an estimated 700 hostages and as many as 2,000 more are thought to be held by the National Liberation Army.

Miley’s Ready To ‘Breakout’ 
Good bye, Hannah Montana. Hello, Miley Cyrus. Miley released her latest album yesterday called “Breakout.” While she’s already sold millions of albums, it’s always been with the “Hannah Montana”
moniker. But there’s no blonde wig on the cover of this CD. Miley says she’s not completely ditching the Hannah Montana thing, she’s just growing up and being her own person. The CD’s first single, “7 Things,” is inside the Top 10 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.

Jonas Brothers Buy Dallas-Fort Worth Home  The Jonas Brothers have purchased a house in a Dallas-Forth Worth suburb. Tarrant County records obtained by the Dallas Morning News indicate the home was purchased for around $2.8 million. It is in the swanky suburb of Westlake.

Mariah Carey To Sing At Fashion Rocks Concert   Mariah Carey will be a part of the all-star Fashion Rocks concert at New York’s Radio City Music Hall on September 5th. The show will air on CBS on September 9th. Additional performers include Beyoncé, Black Eyed Peas, Chris Brown, Keith Urban, Duffy, Fergie, Kid Rock, Lil Wayne, Rihanna
and Justin Timberlake. Proceeds from the fifth annual concert will benefit Stand Up to Cancer.

Kanye West Offers Iraq War Veterans Help   Kanye West has teamed up with MTV to honor U.S. soldiers returning home from service in Iraq. In the new show “Choose or Lose & Kanye West Present: Homecoming,” the rapper offers discharged troops help and advice as they try to get back to normal life after fighting in the Middle East. He also
listens to their heartbreaking stories and harrowing war experiences. The one-hour special will air on July 28th.
